Getting your TEETH into a good book! Coping with BITING behaviour - "TOOFS"
Have you ever found TOOTH marks on your favourite book? Many parents with tiny tots will know whereof I speak! Teething babies, tiny tots, and even older children who have decided they like biting into things, can cause considerable damage and not just to objects. A 'baby bite' is enough to bring tears to the eyes of the most hardy individual.
So what do you do?
Having heard many terrible tales involving teeth from my youngest daughter, Estelle, a childcare & kindergarten professional of some 10 years standing, we decided we ought to do something about it.
I had written a humorous story with a strong rhyming element some time before - it just happened to be about a biting baby. We decided to modify the story and, with Estelle's help, we wove the professionally sanctioned coping strategies for biting behaviours into the story.
The wonderful illustrators with whom we were collaborating, Monica Rondino and Andrea Pucci [The Art of Puro], had the hilarious idea of making the family in the story into a Wolf family. After all, wolves have famously BIG teeth!
TOOFS came out a couple of weeks ago and is available now! Know anyone with a BITING child? give them a copy!:)
