BLURB:

How can a soldier be afraid, a soldier of all people?

Soldiers are not supposed to fear, are they?

This soldier was afraid.

He feared the darkness and everything it hid.

What would it take for him to face his fear

and see it evaporate like mist at morning?

A parable for our times that deals with facing

and overcoming our fears.

Allegorical Word Wings picture book

collaboration between Anna Stępień, Polish illustrator/designer and multi-award-winning author, J.R.Poulter and her son, Dorsey O.Poulter.

FIVE STAR REVIEW:

The Soldier Who Was Afraid by J.R. Poulter and D.O. Poulter is a children’s illustrated fable about a soldier, a princess and a king.
Everyone is afraid of something, even if we don’t admit it to ourselves. But this soldier knew what he was afraid of, and ran from it. The consequences prove almost disastrous, but the story ends on a positive note. [It] is well written, imaginative and enchanting. The artwork was dark, well crafted, setting the mood; detailed, [yet] light-hearted as well, capturing the fantasy element and fitting the characters squarely inside.

In facing our fears, [if] we [don’t] give up, eventually the reward will be there. This lesson is clearly given, though subtly stated. It’s an adventure that children will want to relive again and again. It is a highly recommended read. Review by Music Teacher, reviewer, Bruce Arrington, Readers' Favorite Reviewer
